Well, I guess I’ll get this topic started. This was our main set today, it wasn’t really a favorite, but a good, simple, hard-working set:
24×100 ALL OUT Max Effort!
first 10 on 1:40
next 8 on 1:30
last 6 on 1:20
Another unique set we did back at the beginning of the season was:
?x100 on (2:00 -1 sec)
start on 2:00 and each one gets faster by one second, we started the set kicking with no fins, when you miss, sit out one and put on fins, then kick with fins until you miss again, then sit out one again, the rest are swim with fins until you miss, then the set is over

Do you do a lot of kicking sets? Do you do a lot of breath control sets? What do your coaches obsess over most in terms of swimming technique? Thanks for writing, Val!

Hey everyone! It’s been awhile since I’ve been on here, but in response to Madeline’s questions: I think you would probably get a different answer from every college swimmer you ask on these because each school is different in what they do, but for me I’d say we maybe do a little more kicking than before but it’s not tons more kicking or anything. We really don’t have any kick test sets either. As far as breath control goes, I’d say at the beginning, we didn’t really do much of that, but our coach did get into a craze over winter training where he loved to give us breath sets, so yes we actually have done more of them recently, but overall, I’d say not too much of those either. As far as what our coaches obsess over in technique, one thing doesn’t really jump out at me over the others. I’d say it’s a good emphasis on all aspects of technique. Not all at the same time, of course, as that would be too much to think about, but different things on different days. I hope that helps, and I hope everything is going well back home.
